ICA general manager is rewarded by his job in benefit of Colombian livestock

Livestock health of the country allows national producers the possibility to enter more than 120 new international markets


Bogotá, November 13th 2009. Breeders association of Cebú, ASOCEBU, recognized general manager of Colombian Agriculture and Livestock Institute, ICA, Luis Fernando Caicedo Lince, for his job as an outstanding cattle farmer that has focused his efforts in animal health programs and brucellosis eradication, contributing with health in cattle herds.
 
The recognition was done in the 62nd national Cebú exposition 2009, which was held in the past days in the fairs coliseum “José Alonso Escandón”, in the city of Girardot, Cundinamarca Department.
 
The high ranked official showed his satisfaction with this reward, as well as reiterated that as ICA director he will not only continue engaged in action plans that accomplish brucellosis eradication from animal population, but also in sanitary policies that will allow Colombian cattle to acquire higher status.
 
Caicedo Lince pointed out that foot and mouth eradication is the result of joint work of government and cattle sector, who have done efforts to fight against this disease, for which he invited cattle farmers to keep working in the country’s animal health, combating other diseases that cause big losses in production and are also an obstacle for international trade of animals and their sub products.
 
ICA has been reshaping brucellosis eradication project, going from herds free declaration to free zones declaration having as an medium term objective to be recognized as a country free of this disease.
