ICA does phyto and zoosanitary control for the good development of Catama 2010
- ICA employees have the task to overview entrance of about 1.000 animals among those bovine, caprine and equine, numerous plant material and agriculture and livestock supplies.

Like every year, a group of professionals and technicians of the Colombian Agriculture and Livestock Institute, ICA, participated in the XXX Agroindustrual, Equine, Bovine, Minor Species and tourist Meta Fair, CATAMA Malocas 2010, where they verified accomplishment of phyto and zoosanitary requirements for the good development of the event.
In the fair that will be held between from the 20th to the 24th of January in the city of Villavicencio in which ICA is part of the organization and the created committees for each specie. The Institute shows its mission labor where it shows us the important institutional tasks developed in oriental plains and in the country in general, mainly as facilitator of agriculture and livestock safe products and with quality over to internal or international markets.
For good development of this important agriculture and livestock fair, ICA sectional Meta, issued Resolution 327 from December 14th 2009, which establishes Las Malocas Park quarantine starting December 20th 2009, a place where the event will be held and also “fixated phyto and zoosanitary requirements for mobilization of animals, plant material, agriculture and livestock products inside the country, destined for CATAMA 2010.
Among the requirements, it is important to highlight that the farms where the animals come from in order to participate in cattle auctions for reproduction and breeding (calves, cows, bulls, buffaloes) must be registered in ICA animal health office or other officially delegated institution for that purpose, besides having an official registration of vaccination against foot and mouth disease of all animals during the last four cycles of vaccination.
Likewise, they should have an internal sanitary guide given two days before in order to supervise sanitary status of the animals before leaving the farm if needed.
All bovine and buffaloes that participate in this agro-industrial fair must be individually identified (numbers with iron or an ear tag).
On the other hand, for equine specie that participates in the event for contest or simple exhibit and those used by the National Police inside the fair location, must be individually identified with microchip and be accompanied by a sanitary mobilization guide issued by a veterinary from an ICA office or other institute officially authorized for this purpose.
Poultry for exhibition and sale owners must have a correspondent certificate given by a veterinary with professional id that demonstrate that in the farm of origin there is a vaccination plan with registration of the date, lot number against Marek and Newcastle, according to update regulations. Embryonated eggs incubation will not be allowed in the fair location.
About plant material
Fruit trees and ornamentals that enter “CATAMA Malocas 2010”, must proceed solely from registered nurseries and plots with ICA and accompanied with “phytosanitary mobilization license for plant material” issued by an ICA office, license that is also required for other plants. ICA employees located in the exposition fair will do a sanitary inspection to authorize entrance of plant material to be displayed.
Livestock supplies
All livestock supplies displayed for show or commercialization purposes must have a correspondent ICA sales registration (Resolution No. 1056 from 1996) and fulfill all labeling regulations for this purpose.
For animal owners that would like to enter supplements, mineral salts and concentrated, those supplies must come from a factory authorized by ICA in its original package, duly sealed and with a valid ICA registration, fulfilling established labeling regulation. In case that owners prepare their own animal feed those must be in a new package duly sealed and be accompanied by a document from an ICA veterinary where it is specified the number of sacks and the presentation for each one of them.
Like every year, in this version of CATAMA, the entrance of feed for ruminants will not be allowed that contain raw material, coming from mammal products or sub-products.
