ICA detects focus of Venezuelan equine encephalomyelitis

Puerto Carreño April 30th, 2014. The Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, sectional Vichada declared quarantine in several villages of the department, to detect an outbreak of Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis, a zoonotic disease transmitted from animals to human.

95 smuggled bovine have been seized on the border with Venezuela

Bogota September 6, 2011. The Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, jointly working with other national authorities to combat smuggling and contraband on the border with Venezuela, has ordered the slaughter of 95 animals seized that came in illegally into the country through the cities of Cucuta and Arauca. The animals were slaughtered as a preventive measure to protect and safeguard Colombia’s sanitary status which is globally recognized as Free of Foot-and-Mouth Disease.

An efficacious anti-FMD barrier on the Venezuelan border

Bogota August 25, 2011. On Saturday August 20 at the Convention Center in Arauca was held an assessment related to the development of the High-Surveillance Zone (ZAV) for controlling FMD on the border with Venezuela, which zone is comprised of territories belonging to four municipalities in Arauca, which are: Arauca, Arauquita, Saravena, and Cravo Norte; one municipality in the Department of Boyaca which is Curabal; and two municipalities in the Department of Vichada which are Puerto Carreño and La Primavera.

ICA modernizes the veterinary diagnostics laboratory in Valledupar

Bogota August 25, 2011. Livestock producers from the central and northern regions of the Department of Cesar, all of the Department of La Guajira, and five municipalities within the Central Magdalena Zone will be the beneficiaries of the modernization of the Colombian Agricultural Institute, ICA, veterinary diagnostic laboratory in the city of Valledupar, which has been in operation for more than 50 years lending its services to the Caribbean region of Colombia.
