This Deputy Manager supports the General Manager in the formulation, preparation and development of politics, plans, programs, projects, measures and procedures to protect animal health, to verify the quality of production, marketing and safe use of animal inputs and to tend towards safety in primary production of animal products.
Within this, it establishes in accordance with international norms adopted by Colombia, the diseases of official control and mandatory notification and registration. Develops and administers programs and sanitary campaigns for the control and eradication of officially controlled diseases and the strategies for the development of joint activities with the private sector and other authorities for the enforcement of the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures on animal protection.
Coordinates campaigns and programs for control and eradication so that they have the elements necessary to get to free and low-prevalence areas, through the establishment of indicators of impact and improvement of status. It also performs preventive actions with producers, importers, exporters and other authorities, to protect animal production from illness and other harmful organisms that affect or may affect it.
Sets free and low-prevalence areas for officially controlled diseases. Determines the sanitary status of the country. Coordinates, implements and oversees the activities of epidemiological surveillance in order to maintain an updated and timely decision-making system.
It also directs and coordinates the technical control of veterinary supplies and genetic animal material. Supports the Deputy Manager of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulations in the process of issuance and dissemination of the necessary Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, in order to protect and improve the productivity of the livestock sector of the country.
On the other hand, it instructs in second instance on the processes and prepares the respective acts in the sanction process that, in terms of animal protection, is implemented in first instance by the Branch Manager, for the decision of the General Manager.
Coordinates with the other departments of the Institute the matters of its competence. Participates in the implementation, development and sustainment of the Quality Management System and the Internal Control Standard Model.
