Bogotá, October 22
nd
2009. The job done in order to strengthen livestock sector by the Colombian Agriculture and Livestock, ICA, allowed to establish a new bilateral trade with Perú for Colombian live bovines for reproduction and fighting bulls exports and imports.
As a result of the technical process between the Institute and the National Service of Agriculture Health of Perú, SENASA, there was the signature of these sanitary agreements that look to allow the country´s livestock producers to widen their possibilities in the international markets for animal commerce.
“The signature of these protocols with Perú confirms that Colombian livestock health is a key tool in new markets opening, directly benefiting the livestock sector, who up to this point could only trade live bovines for reproduction with Venezuela and Paraguay”, stated ICA´s general manager, Luis Fernando Caicedo Lince.
The high ranked official added that ICA will continue strengthening its field actions to maintain the country’s health condition, in this way accomplishing bigger presence in different countries for agriculture and livestock products.
Likewise, fulfillment of sanitary measures established in the protocols will be evaluated as well as its application in exports and imports of these animals with Perú.
Among fundamental requirements for live bovine for reproduction and fighting bull’s exports, there is a sanitary certificate issued by ICA.
On the other hand, SENASA from Perú authorized PROGEL S.A and GELCO S.A, two Colombian plants that produce gelatin from bovine skin to export to this country.
The processing plants certifications were obtained after SENASA proved that sanitary conditions of production and biosafety applied in each one guarantee that their products do not represent a risk to the neighboring country.
