Risaralda currently has 40 swine farms registered
Pereira, December 10
th
2009. Colombian Agriculture and Livestock Institute, ICA, certified in Risaralda the first three plots of swine food safety in the country, located in municipalities Balboa, Guática and Pereira.
With plot certification they will not only commercialize their products in national market but also internationally, where there are demands of animal and their products imports coming from plots with favorable health and food safety conditions.
To acquire this certification, plots must fulfill what is established in resolution 2640, which regulates sanitary condition of swine production, to improve sanity in exploitations and food safety in this time of meat for human consumption.
ICA general manager, Luis Fernando Caicedo, called swine producers of the country to implement in their swine farms good practices, considering that before September 2010, the country’s swine plots should be certified in swine food safety.
To acquire certification, a swine plot should be registered with ICA, have its animal vaccinated against classical swine fever, have good biosafety measures, give good usage to veterinary medicines and fulfill good practices in animal feeding, among other aspects.
Once the plots fulfill requirements established in regulations, ICA will audit them to verify accomplishments in order to issue certification that will be valid for two years.
Swine plots are Porcícola Los Alpes located in Balboa municipality, La Galicia located in Guática municipality and San Antonio in Pereira municipality.
Likewise, ICA issued a certification of cattle farming good practices in meat production to Hatoviejo and Hacienda Bohemia plot in Pereira municipality and certification in good practices in milk production to the plot La Orquidea in Guatica municipality.
Data of interest
Currently nine farms have been certified in cattle good practices in swine production in Risaralda and Antioquia Departments.
