With the promulgation of Act 1152 of 2007 and Decree 4904 of the same year the Ica assumed the duties of administering the country's fisheries resources, as well as research and management of fisheries and aquaculture in Colombia.
To fully meet this responsibility, the Institute created the new Deputy Fisheries and Aquaculture, which is composed of two areas: Public Services and Regulation of Fisheries and Aquaculture and two regional offices, Atlantic and Pacific.
In what has to do with the Directorate of Public Services (registration, control and surveillance), the Sub is responsible for regulating the fishery, providing permits for the respective marketing and export of fishery products as well as to its use.
For its part, the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture Regulatory functions is conducting investigations, technical studies and implementation of fisheries management plans regionalized, defining the subject of sustainable resources.
Regional Offices of the Atlantic Coast and Pacific, based in Santa Marta and Buenaventura, respectively, are the function field verification of compliance issued by the ICA on Fisheries and Aquaculture, as well as receive and respond to queries of citizens related to this activity. Furthermore, is responsible for supporting the processes of the directions of Public Services and Regulation of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
