This Subgerencia supports the General Manager in the formulation, preparation and development of policies, plans, programs, projects, measures and procedures designed to protect animal health, to verify the quality of the production, marketing and use of inputs animals and strive for safety in primary production of animal products.

Within this, in line with established international standards adopted by Colombia, disease control official and compulsory notification and registration. Develops and administers programs and health campaigns to control and eradicate disease control, strategies for development of joint actions with the private sector and other authorities to comply with the Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures in terms of animal protection.

Campaigns and coordinates the control and eradication programs for ele ments have to reach areas of free and low prevalence, through the establishment of impact indicators and improvement status. Also the implementation of preventative actions in conjunction with producers, importers, exporters and other authorities, to protect the production of animal diseases and other harmful organisms that affect or may affect it.

Sets the free areas and low prevalence of disease control. Determines the health status of the country. Coordinates, implements and monitors the activities of epidemiological surveillance in a way that maintains an updated and timely decision making.

In addition, directs and coordinates the testing of veterinary and animal genetic material. Supports the Deputy Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulations in the issuance process and dissemination of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures necessary to protect and improve the productivity of livestock sector in the country.

On the other hand, instructs on the processes in the second instance and prepares for the acts for which punitive process in protecting animal forward in the first branch manager for the decision of General Manager
