Among its main functions are to advise the General Manager in the formulation, preparation and development of policies, plans, programs, projects, measures and procedures designed to protect plant health, breeders rights of plant varieties, to verify the quality of production, marketing and use of seeds and agricultural supplies, seeking safety in primary production of products of plant origin.

 

Therefore, directs the development of plans, programs and projects identified for objective implementation of the Institute in improving plant health status of crop production through the development of campaigns for  control and eradication of pests. .

 

It executes and monitors activities of epidemiological surveillance in a way that maintains an updated and timely decision making. Directs and coordinates the technical control of agricultural supplies and production and release of seeds, as well as the implementation of  preventive actions together with producers, exporters, importers and other authorities, to protect crops from pests and diseases that affect or may affect plant species in the country.

 

It also supports the Deputy Sanitary and Phytosanitary Regulations in the issuance process and dissemination of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures necessary to protect and improve the productivity of agriculture in the country. It instructs on the process in the second instance and prepares for the events that punitive process in protecting plant later in the first instance, the branch manager for the decision of the General Manager.
